This is a trying time for all of us. Whoever expected that we would all be part of a global pandemic the likes of which we have never seen. Feels like we are all actors in some Sci-Fi apocalyptic movie, doesn’t it?
The other day, as I was entering CVS to pick up some medication for my dog, there was a 30 something woman with a sign asking for any help that could be offered. I told her that I didn’t carry cash with me, but I would be happy to help in some other way. She told me that some eggs and milk would be much appreciated. So, along with my box of Pepcid for my dog, I grabbed a carton of eggs and milk and gave it to her. Who knows. Maybe she is a laid off restaurant worker with children, just trying to find a way to provide for her children. She was so appreciative.
Then, as I was driving by my local high school, I saw someone standing in the driveway with a sign saying “Grab N Go - Enter Here”. What is Grab N Go? Well, I didn’t realize that since children are no longer getting lunches at school, the city is now sponsoring several locations where lunches can be picked up for children.
So, I thought I would create a post with some helpful links for those of us that could use a helping hand during this time of “sheltering in place”.
First, if you are not familiar with the Nextdoor app, you can download this app onto your mobile device. Many of my local neighbors have been reaching out to help their neighbors in need. One home-bound woman was in need of some toilet paper. Several of her neighbors stepped up by placing a roll or two on her doorstep. You will also find many Public Service Announcements posted by the City of Los Angeles and the L.A. DWP, to name a few.
Also, don’t forget to support your local restaurants that are remaining open for take-out and delivery. Our patronage can help keep them afloat in this difficult time.
Here are several helpful links - please be sure to spread the word so our fellow Angelenos in need can get the assistance they need.
